My grandmother brought me to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where, at the age of twelve, I was transfixed by Amedeo Modigliani’s portraits of women. They held a power that caught my eye; recognizing my connection to them Mimi challenged me to draw a picture in his style.

It seems I’ve been painting women with swan-like necks and small mouths ever since.

I moved to Charlotte, NC in 2019, just before Covid. Solitude was fortunate for me as an Artist, I experimented with various mediums and applications.

Once life returned to “normal”, I went to a First Friday Art Crawl, at Dilworth Artisan Station. I met a great community of Artists who encouraged me to rent a studio.

This was my launching pad…I began painting every day.

When I’m not painting, I enjoy the study of Astrology, gardening, and spending time with my pup, Oliver.

Working with layers of paint, modeling paste, and mixed media has allowed me to understand there are no mistakes. Everything leads to something else. If I don’t like a result I add another layer, working with mistakes has become integral to my process.

My process allows for the interplay of random chance and stories from my unconscious. I wet the canvas with water and applied fluid acrylic. I then turn the canvas from different angles causing drips to create a pattern. I study these marks until the threads of a character and their background emerge. An ongoing motif in my work is the gentle strength of women–as mentors, sisters, and sorcerors. I call them my “Storied Portraits”. However, I hope that my paintings inspire viewers to create their own stories.
